Palm Kernel Shell (PKS)

Palm Kernel Shell (PKS) is a renewable biofuel made up of the hard shelles of palm kernel nut.

In the palm oil milling process, palm kernel nuts are separated from the fibruos palm pulp. The nuts are then cracked to extract the kernels for subsequent oil extraction while the shells are separated from the main processing line. Part of the shells are used as fuel for th boiler and the balance is processed into renewable palm biofuel.

Similar to other nut shell, PKS has calorific value close to that of wood pellets, lignite (Brown Coal) and peat with Lower Heating Value of 3500kCal/kg and Higher Heating Value of 4600kCal/kg. Moisture content is kept below 20% to improve the efficiencies of transportation and combustion.
